In her first live performance in five years, pop megastar Rihanna has delivered an epic, highly-anticipated performance at the Super Bowl half-time show, with a medley of her biggest hits.
Rihanna opened with “Bitch better have my money”, appearing on a translucent floating platform surrounded by dancers on other floating platforms.
She followed up with a medley of fan favourites, including of “Where Have You Been,” “Only Girl (In the World),” “We Found Love,” “Rude Boy,” “Work,” “Wild Thoughts,” “Pour It Up,” “Umbrella,” “Diamonds”.
Rihanna also appeared to use the opportunity to publicly announce her second pregnancy, with her silhouette in a red jumpsuit causing some speculation. A representative soon afterward confirmed with the Hollywood Reporter she is pregnant.
Rihanna gave birth to her first child with partner A$AP Rocky last year.
In an interview prior to the performance at the Super Bowl, Rihanna said motherhood had made her feel like she could do anything, and was a major reason she agreed to take on the performance.
“I was like, ‘You sure? I’m three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this,’” she said.
“When you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world — you can do anything,” she added. “And the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, so as scary as that was … there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all,” she said. “It’s important for my son to see that.”
